Eightspiration: 0224

While many people view January as their reset month, for me, February takes the crown. I kicked off the month with a birthday celebration and a small ski trip, setting the perfect tone for what was to come: planning another art show at Nuwave Gallery and creating an abundance of PNW-inspired art! Along the way, I found inspiration in a myriad of sources, from books and TV shows to tranquil mornings and even pastures of cows. February was brimming with delightful moments that I couldn't wait to share.

My eight inspirations from February 2024:

1. Corrie Ten Boom: Righteous Among the Nations

Corrie ten Boom gained renown for her courageous actions in sheltering Jews from arrest and deportation during the German occupation of the Netherlands. Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) was honored by the Yad Vashem Remembrance Authority as one of the "Righteous Among the Nations" on December 12, 1967.

Having recently immersed myself in her story through her book, documentary, and dramatized film, I was profoundly moved. The Ten Boom family’s unwavering bravery and commitment to doing what was right in the face of adversity filled me with tears, awe, and deep inspiration.

2. MCT Oil: Healthy Fats

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a unique form of fat found in oils like coconut and palm oil. Over the years, MCT oil has gained popularity as a supplement, backed by research indicating various health benefits, including increased energy levels and appetite control. Personally, I incorporate MCT oil into my daily routine not as a promotion but because I've experienced its appetite-curbing effects and appreciate its contribution to my intake of healthy fats.

3. Tiny memories: My treasure shelves

While my walls are adorned with my own large paintings, I have recently delved into showcasing smaller artworks by other artists throughout my home. These pieces, collected during travels over the years, are now coming together to form a beautiful collection that serves as a poignant reminder of the beautiful paths I have traveled. Even on mundane workdays, these artworks bring a touch of inspiration and beauty into my home.

4. White Pass: White Out

There's nothing quite like the breathtaking views from the top of a ski lift, is there? It's like being able to enjoy the ascent of a hike without the effort, only to zip down to the bottom and do it all over again. Recently, I had the joy of celebrating my birthday in just this way, surrounded by good friends. The views of two of Washington's majestic volcanoes, Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier, were truly awe-inspiring and filled me with a sense of wonder and gratitude.

5. Pinnacle: Mountain summits + milestones reached

My current art show at Nuwave Gallery, titled "Pinnacle," is a gorgeous celebration of the Pacific Northwest's natural splendor. Featuring the works of six talented female PNW artists, each piece captured the essence of the region with remarkable depth and beauty. From mountain summits to personal milestones, the show was a captivating exploration of the PNW's soul.

As I reflect on this show, I am filled with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment. "Pinnacle" also marks one year of shows at Nuwave Gallery, a milestone that holds special significance for me. Over the past year, I have learned so much and found immense joy in bringing artists together. While I am far from perfect and still have much to learn, I am grateful to have reached this point, thanks to the support of individuals like you who appreciate and value the arts.

6. Early habits: Pouring into power hour

Now that I've settled back into my rhythm, I've rediscovered my love for early mornings spent reading, walking, and praying. There's a sense of deep satisfaction in springing out of bed when the alarm goes off, lighting a candle, and dedicating time to learning and personal growth. Walking in the cool, fresh air before most of my neighbors even open their eyes has become a cherished ritual that sets a positive tone for the day ahead. This habit has been truly transformative, leading to significant personal and spiritual growth and instilling in me the belief that I can achieve more each day.

7. The Lighting Loopdy-Loop: Art on my ceiling

After months of anticipation, I've finally installed a stunning new LED rope light fixture! The Hose Rope Pendant light caught my eye for its blend of modern luxury and functionality, with black metal piping elegantly intertwined with a flexible fabric braided hose that cleverly conceals the LED light source. Its artistic design adds a captivating visual interest to my spacious room, making it a striking focal point.

8. Bespoke Inns: The power of a dream + thoughtful design

I recently discovered and fell in love with the delightful series "Bespoke Inns." This show intricately explores the designs, settings, food, and histories of inns that transcend mere accommodation to become immersive experiences. This resonated deeply with me because it reflects a shared goal I have for every space I inhabit, whether it's my home or my business. It's incredibly inspiring to witness people's stories unfold and see them create spaces that are not just functional but also deeply meaningful and enriching.
