March: A month that portrays glimpses of hope as we see nature turn from seemingly desolate to showing sparks of life. I was inspired lately by many discoveries, remembrances, and views. Here are just a few:
My eight inspirations from March 2024:
1. Mother Cabrini: A Life of Service
I recently learned (through watching a compelling movie and reading a biography) about Mother Cabrini, who was an Italian-American religious sister and the first naturalized citizen of the United States to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. She was born in 1850 in Italy and later founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a religious congregation that focused on serving the needs of immigrants, especially Italian immigrants, in the United States.
I was particularly inspired by her because Mother Cabrini dedicated her life to helping the poor, sick, and marginalized, particularly immigrants. She established schools, orphanages, and hospitals in the United States, South America, and Europe. Despite facing many challenges and obstacles, including prejudice and discrimination, she persevered in her mission and became known for her compassion, courage, and unwavering faith.
2. Organic Modern: The Perfect Decor Mashup
As I've been working on my improving home this month, I've been pondering my decor style. While I can appreciate many styles, I find myself most drawn to what I'd call "organic modern." This style blends contemporary design with the organic beauty of nature, creating a harmonious blend of sleek sophistication and natural warmth.
3. My Art Roots: Those Drips
This month, I worked on a piece of artwork that rekindled the essence of my artistic journey: mountains spilling out of the frame. Do you remember when that was alllll I made? It was so fun to do it again. This particular painting captured the majestic Mt. Baker and now resides in its forever home in Shoreline, WA.
4. Washington State’s Warm Getaway: Lake Chelan
This month, I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the company of friends in Lake Chelan. Known for its wineries, waterways, and breathtaking beauty, this area of Washington inspired me with its serene landscapes and vibrant tourism scene. The laughter of friends filled the weekend, creating memories to cherish.
5. The Plant that Prays: A Beautiful Dance
By watching my own plant, I just discovered the fascinating fact that prayer plants have leaves that lie flat during the day, then fold upright at night, resembling a prayer gesture for evening vespers? This behavior, known as a diurnal rhythm, gives the plant its common name. I learned about this recently and am truly captivated by the beauty and symbolism of the prayer plant.

6. The Word: The Most Important Read of Your Life
As we approach Easter, I can't help but mention the most impactful book I've been reading: The Bible. While I know it can be a challenging read, I recently came across the "Passion Translation," which beautifully unpacks the meaning and context of its passages. To deepen my understanding, I've begun creating poster designs by integrating verses into my abstract art, finding that this creative approach helps me meditate on verses I want to focus on more effectively.
7. The Latest Creative District: Ellensburg, WA
Although it’s been a good challenge, I’m thrilled to live in and own a business in Ellensburg, Washington's newest Certified Creative District. This recognition, the result of collaborative efforts by various community organizations, will support the arts and establish Ellensburg as a vibrant hub where artists can live, work, and flourish. This certification will help drive Ellensburg's economy and enhance the overall community, firmly establishing it as a place of vitality and creativity where artists thrive.
8. Scamfluencers: True Crime without the Murder
I recently discovered a new podcast: Scamfluencers, revealing the hidden truths behind their online personas. Hosted by Scaachi Koul and Sarah Hagi, each episode explores the fascinating and sometimes devastating impact of influencers who deceive millions. It's a gripping journey through the worlds of social media, fashion, finance, and more, shedding light on why we're drawn to these influencers and how they manipulate our trust.
