Eightspiration: 0624
I'll be honest, this June was particularly challenging for me emotionally. As an artist supporting myself through the creation of luxury goods, the economic recession has made it feel like everyone is tightening their belts (myself included!). Running a business is uncharted territory for me, and it's a constant learning process. With every victory comes an equal measure of disappointment, but I firmly believe that God is faithful and will provide. Despite the difficulties, here are eight things that kept me going, inspired, and joyful this month:
My eight inspirations from June 2024:
1. Alpenglow: A Rosy Mountain Light
Alpenglow is a stunning phenomenon that occurs when the sun is just below the horizon, casting a rosy light that bathes the mountains in ethereal pink and purple hues. Inspired by this magical display, I created a new painting that captures the serene and mystical essence of alpenglow with soft pink and deep purple tones. The painting isn’t QUITE done yet, but it was fun to create!
2. The Whidbey Island Dance: Pure Laughter + Serene Landscape
During a recent trip to Whidbey Island, my friend Jackie and I decided to make a silly dance sequence on the beach. We let loose, twirling and laughing uncontrollably as we improvised ridiculous moves against the backdrop of the serene shoreline. The pure joy and freedom we felt in that moment were infectious, reminding me that laughter truly is the best medicine. It's incredible how something as simple as a spontaneous dance can lift your spirits and create unforgettable memories.
3. Happily Wed: Captured in Time
I love live painting landscapes at weddings! While many couples opt for a portrait artist, I believe a landscape artist adds a unique and captivating touch to the celebration. With a photographer and videographer already capturing the personal moments, a live landscape painting provides a beautiful backdrop that enhances the event's ambiance. Whether it's a serene beach, a lush garden, or a stunning mountain view, I can create a live landscape painting anywhere, offering the perfect soft entertainment for guests during cocktail hour. Watching the artwork come to life in real time adds an element of wonder and elegance to the occasion, making it truly unforgettable.

4. WOODWORKING: Infinite Possibilities
Enough about me. Let’s talk about WOOD! Woodworking pieces are the perfect addition to your home decor, blending functionality and artistry. Each handcrafted item serves as both a practical piece and a stylish statement. The warmth and natural beauty of wood bring coziness and elegance to any space, making it versatile for any interior. In my curating over at Nuwave Gallery, I am showcasing woodworking art by five different artists, featuring carved sculptures, minimalist designs, and beautifully crafted wall art. This collection adds character and a touch of nature to your home, creating an inviting atmosphere that celebrates craftsmanship and creativity.
5. Bellingham: A Haven of Beauty and Creativity
I spent a few days visiting friends in Bellingham this month while showing art at Aslan Brewing. Bellingham, nestled between the Salish Sea and the North Cascades, is stunning with its serene waterfront, lush forests, and majestic mountains. This picturesque setting fuels my creativity and passion for art. I'm thrilled to share that I will have a booth at the upcoming Tune Up Festival market with my friend Amanda Whitworth. We can't wait to showcase our work and connect with the community in such a beautiful and inspiring place.

6. Watch & Learn: Vacation House Rules
I love Scott's Vacation House Rules on HGTV Canada! It's a great show where Scott McGillivray helps rental owners transform tired properties into profitable vacation rentals. I'm inspired by the innovative designs focused on creating fun experiences rather than just regular home living. Scott's expertise in renovation, design, marketing, and business strategies offers valuable insights for anyone interested in the vacation rental market.
7. Cranked Neck: My Finished 5th Wall
Remember how I told you last month about my new obsession with painted ceilings? I finally finished my own! Ceiling murals are wonderful because they add movement and color to a space without overwhelming it. What do you think? Would you like me to paint one in your home?

8. My Flock: Backyard Dinosaurs
Chickens are fantastic backyard pets, bringing joy and utility to your home. Their playful antics and unique personalities always make me laugh. Besides being entertaining, they provide fresh eggs, help manage scraps, and even assist with lawn maintenance. My flock includes Gwenneth Poultry (Blue Gem), Heidi Plume (Silver Laced Sussex), Vera Wing (Copper Rock Maran), and Sophia Lorhen (Silver Laced Wyandotte). Their vibrant feathers and lively demeanor inspire me daily, making chickens a constant source of laughter, inspiration, and delicious eggs. Plus, there's a wealth of helpful reels about chicken care to explore.
Well, those are my inspirations for the month. Catch me later on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or in person at Nuwave Gallery!
